Many people make their wishes known about cremation, but frequently the issue of what to do with the cremated remains is unclear. Aerial scattering is an alternative to traditional burial, burial at sea, or boat scattering. It is important to note that some forms of scattering of remains may be illegal.

Many people don’t realize that deceased may also be buried in lakes or other bodies of water – in fact, the most well known example is the Ganges River in India.The aerial ash scattering procedure cannot be reversed. While bodies buried on land can be exhumed for autopsy or for illegal purposes – it is impossible to do so in the case of aerial ash scattering or burial at sea; especially so if the body has been cremated.

Furthermore, while burial on land allows relations to return to the burial site for further services, this is also difficult for burials at sea and ash scattering, and no memorial can be constructed at the burial location.
